Calatrava’s drawings of varying type, format, and technique afford us a key to understanding the ensemble of his work.

The order of the drawings does not necessarily begin with the rough draft and conclude with the polished end product. At times, completed projects are followed by further sketches of their details. Some of these examine the project in a schematic manner; others explore form freely, regardless of function.
