South Afirca World Cup 2010

South Africa is the next host for World Cup 2010, according to go2africa.com, South Africa’s premier soccer venue is the FNB Stadium for World Cup 2010, known as Soccer City. No new high tech stadium on their radar screen. Instead of building new stadium, the South African government will upgrade the existing stadium capacity from 80,000 to 97,000. A very good move indeed because building 10 new high tech stadium for the sole purpose of hosting the world most watched sports for a month is wastage. Upgrade the existing and built new stadiums if there are not enough to meet the minium requirement.

My Malaysian government has a lot to learn from after the 1998 Commonwealth Games. High tech stadium with first world facilities than can’t even win a gold medal in olympics.

In the Western Cape, Cape Town’s Green Point stadium will be rebuilt, becoming a “totally new” multi-purpose sports facility complete with a dome that can be opened and closed. The dome is necessary for Cape Town’s unpredictable weather.

If I’m not mistaken, Boogertman + Partners is assigned to overlook the whole upgrading project, someone please help me verify this. For more information on World Cup 2010 visit Wikipedia.
