There Once Was a Dream

She is coming tomorrow, and I do not think she will last for more than a month said the senior draftsperson. Maybe she won’t even turn up tomorrow said another draftsperson.
I took a deep breath and stood up, as I walk towards the toilet, the empty seat at the admin area reminds me of Vicky. A mother to three, she still has the lady-killer looks that will turn any guy upside down, it’s so quiet now, and the atmosphere is so different right after she left. I still remember talking to her about the places in our district - Manjung, it so happen that we’re from the same district 250km away from Kuala Lumpur. Time sure flies, it’s been three months she left this office.
Shirley is the new secretary to replace her; a fresh graduate with no experience, the hottest topic in our office would be the guessing game. “She won’t last for more than a week” says Sebastian, “Our boss is going to scare her away.” Like all good things, there is an ending to it. I’m no god and definitely not a fortune teller, I couldn’t help it but to join them with the gossips and I said, “I think her expire date is around one month time.”
Like all rumors, she did stay for more than a month. Today is Shirley’s last day and it’s her second month working in this office.
My first impression on her was - she is fair, I mean Chinese are suppose to be yellow in colour right? But she is very fair, I don’t believe in snow white and used to think that snow white only exist in fairy tales, she proves me wrong.
Like Vicky, she is also from the same district - Manjung. What a coincident that three of us are from the same district, and just like Vicky, she couldn’t take the constant scolding from my boss anymore and told my boss what she thinks of him, and the truth has set her free. Flipping thru the calendar on my table, I took out a red pen and drew a red box.
There once was a dream, but now the dream is so fragile, so fragile that you could only whisper, that I’m afraid it couldn’t survive this winter.
