Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and South Johor Economic Region

5 December 2006 | Category: Architecture Rumbling

I hate to say this but it seems that my country - Malaysia, especially the government are a bunch of jockers with the lowest IQ among all politicians, lower than a 5 years old kid. First was the administration city known as Putrajaya, it is a great idea an I have to admit that it does help ease the traffic congestion in the capital Kuala Lumpur to some extend, but what distracts me is the architectural concept behind Putrajaya. 45% of the populations are Muslims and the official religion is Islam, now these 45% Muslims are not Arabs like those found in Iraq or Iran or Saudi, they’re Malays. It is about time these Malays wake up and take a good look at their own culture and race, gifted with talent in wood crafting and beautiful motifs, they have simply abandoned what their forefathers have passed down to me through generations and adopt Arab’s Architecture and Culture.

Must official buildings come with those onion domes from Arab? Those are Arab’s architecture and culture and not the native Malay’s architecture, I can accept the fact all mosques comes with a dome but never on some government’s building just because we are a Muslims country, the Thais did not discard their architecture and embrace Indian architecture because Buddha was from Indian and born as an Indian prince.

Call me unpatriotic for bashing the government but what do doctors know anything about architecture? Our ex-Prime Minister Tun Dr.Mahathir was a doctor, undeniably Putrajaya is Malaysia’s Frankenstein city. Putrajaya has a Santiago Calatrava look alike high tech bridge while on another corner we have the Arab’s or some say Turkish architecture, not to mention Balinese and neo-classical style of hotels. Bravo, this is very tasteful… … for the tasteless.

The entire Putrajaya project is not economically viable, buildings are so far apart among each other as if one is in a dessert; on top of that maintenance is expensive. It is a failure. A waste of the people’s money so that these cronies can suck up all those money and send their children to UK for studies and partying.

Next on the radar screen is the South Johor Economic Region. With a budget of RM18 billion, this project aimed at transforming the idyllic southern Johor state into a metropolis similar to Hong Kong or Shenzhen. Hong Kong? My my, that is a big word for little guys like them. In order for this project to be successful, we need rich Chinese business man from Singapore. Yes, that tiny little red dot on planet earth.

SJER aims to be a sustainable region of international standard. The beacon of new growth, SJER will spur economic developments that actuate Malaysia’s global potential. Recognising the need for sustainable development, social and environmental issues features heavily on its agenda. SJER’s commitment to these causes are evident in its manifestation within the SJER Masterplan. - Quoted from SJER Website

Now, this is a really good project considering the fact that Singapore is a first world country and their citizens are loaded with cash, we can tap into their wealth. Our goods here are slightly cheaper and so is the cost of living, buy a house here and work in Singapore. The sad part is our education minister just couldn’t resist waving his thunder cat dagger and went amok with racist remarks (bashing the Chinese) during the recent party’s meeting.

“Datuk Hisham has unsheathed his keris (Malay Dagger), wave his keris, kisses his keris. We want to ask Datuk Hisham, when he is going to use it?” Source: Jeffooi

Great job Mr.Thunder Cat, next time please leave your “made in China” toy and that 5 years old jungle mentality at home, but if you insist on bringing your dagger to the next general meeting, do me a favor - think! use your raisin size brain and balls. Think of our country, 20 years ago we are light years ahead of China and India, but now we lag behind them in term of technology and science, we are going from “third world” to “out of this world” status, talk and act like a civilize human Mr.Thunder Cat for your stupidity will send us back to the barbaric age.

Back to the South Johor Economic Region, visit their official website for some really interesting sketches and drawings. Download this PDF about the local feasibility context.

Do you know why I said SJER is a great idea? That is because our Malaysian government do not repeat the same mistake, they’ve learn their mistake from past mega-city-projects like Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. Trust me, they are not repeating the same mistake again… … they’re creating a new mistake!
