Curtin University Perth Australia

Here I am, continuing my studies in Curtin University in Perth, Australia. I’ve been to Perth before when I was like five years old and the only think I can remember was the penguins and koala bears.

That’s Ben having problem pushing his luggage bag. The wheels of the bag kind of like died due to overweight. We stayed at YHA for a night and it was like 100 Australian dollars per night, which is so expensive when converted back to Malaysian Ringgit. The best part is the room is facing the train station and the train passes by every 5 minutes.

We went to Kings Park on that very day when we arrive and the night view is so beautiful, we even went to Burswood Casino… yup, on the very first day we arrive on Perth. No, we never gamble.

The grass is so green and the sky is always blue, it is so different from Malaysia. Summer is not as hot as what they said it would be.

Curtin University is big, it is not even 1% of what Limkokwing University College has to offer to the world. The people are nice and police (for the moment) and everything is neat and clean, simple I would say. Curtin University is named after Australia’s former Prime Minister John Curtin. From what I hear, Bentley area which is where Curtin is located has the highest crime rate is Australia, possible due to the unlimited supply of Asian students studying there every year.

Curtin University is beautiful; I love the strong use of face bricks. It may look traditional and uncreative in some architect’s pint of view but I always believe a good design should stand against time - endless beauty is the keyword.

The lecturer hall was like huge… well not really. Thats Ben on the left and me on the right.

Unpacking is a headache, I’ve got like tons of cables for my PDA, camera, laptop, external harddisk, and mobile phones… they should come up with a universal charger that fits all electronic equipments. Internet connection is slow, it’s like not moving at all and with a monthly bandwidth of 200MB, and I’m like decaying over here. Talk about dying a slow death, things over here in Perth seems slow, hypermarket closes at five o’clock everyday, no buses after five for certain routes and to open a bank account it took me 10 days, in Malaysia the maximum would be 1 hour or less depending on the bank. After five o’clock or seven depending on the area, Perth simply sleeps. I miss my country, I miss those late night hang outs, I miss Malaysia’s politics, I miss Malaysia’s unlimited broadband internet.

Perth - the city that sleeps.
