This is the building that I come across during my Joondalup site visit. Designed by Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (fjmt), in collaboration with Hassell as associate architect, peeks above the treetops like a crown. Inspired by the native xanthorrhoea plant, a grass tree common in Perth, these four buildings house the school of business, the vice chancellor’s offices, and the administrative center for Edith Cowan University’s Joondalup campus.
Funny thing is, it say the name of the building is “Ugly building in Google Earth”, makes me wonder what is the actual name of that building and so the search begin.
Apparently the building has no name, well, not really but according to online sources it says “New Chancellery Building and Business School

I guess that is why the Google Earth Communities label it as “Ugly Building”.
It is not that ugly as some people think it is, at least the architecture has some organic form to it, unlike other buildings that simply resemble an ugly box. Well, again Robert Venturi was right about designing buildings, he mention that we (architects) tend to design building for architects and not for the people, according to him we should design buildings that a layman would understand, not the other way around.
