Architectural CAD Drafting Program In 1963

Written by Ivan Sutherland for his PhD thesis, Sketchpad was a revolutionary computer-aided drafting (CAD) program in 1963. It helped change the way people interact with computers and laid the foundation for the creation of Graphic User Interface.

Sketchpad is a drawing device for architects and graphic designers, it is extremely impressive considering the software and hardware limitation, not to mention it was created 46 years ago. Maybe Microsoft Surface IS the future, finger cross.

Disney-Pixar’s latest creation ‘Up’ is a must watch animation. Its a story about a grumpy old man known as Carl Fredricksen and his house, his willingness to stand up for his property and not to be cowed by the evil developer, builders, and architects who want nothing but money.

Carl and Ellie wed and grow old together in the old house where they first met while making a living as a toy balloon vendor and a zookeeper respectively. Unable to have children, they also try to save up for the trip to Paradise Falls but other financial obligations arise. Just as they seem to finally be able to take their trip, Ellie dies of old age, leaving Carl living alone in their home as a sour recluse with nothing to live for and missing his wife terribly. As the years pass, the city grows around Carl’s house with construction as Carl refuses to move. Source: Wikipedia

The only way to save his property and live the ‘adventurous’ dream he and his late wife dream off is by tying thousands of balloon to his home, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America.

Sometimes they successfully force out the residents, by hook or by crook, but in some cases they failed to persuade the owner to sell their property, thus the birth of ‘nail houses‘.

DeputyDog has a list of 6 extraordinarily stubborn ‘nail houses’. Watch Disney-Pixar’s Up trailer on YouTube.
