Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, at 6,200 people per km², due to the density, Gary Chang, a Hong Kong architect, lives in a tiny apartment created at least 24 different room layout configurations from his 344 sq foot Room.

Hong Kong has the world’s greatest number of skyscrapers, at 6,439. The high density and tall skyline of Hong Kong’s urban area is due to a lack of available sprawl space. This lack of space causing demand for dense, high-rise offices and housing, has resulted in 38 of the world’s 100 tallest residential buildings being in Hong Kong, and more people living or working above the 14th floor than anywhere else on Earth, making it the world’s most vertical city. At first I thought it was talking about 24 different possible floorplan options rather than 24 different “instant” transformations. It reminds me a little of fold-out camper trailers from the 1960′s in the U.S., although of course generally much more substantial and luxurious (which it should be, for what this last renovation cost him). It seems really painful to imagine what the original configuration must have been like for six or seven people … and what most dwellings in Hong Kong must be like!
