Eye of the World – Ferris Wheel

It all begins with an idea of reinventing the wheel in an enormous scale, so big that tourists could literally view the entire city at the peak of the ferris wheel.

The London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel was the first to inspire others to adopt the idea of “the eye” for every city. Closer to home in Malaysia we have the “Eye on Malaysia”, it is the smallest ferris wheel among all the others and the only thing big about the “Eye on Malaysia” is the budget, sad but true.

Not to be out done by Malaysia for having the tallest portable observation wheel in South-East Asia, Singapore is building their “Singapore Flyer” and it is projected to be 165 meter in height, I bet you can see KL from across the causeway and as usual the Malaysian government will say it is a spying device disguise as a tourist attraction.

Now, rumors has it that Berlin buys into the Ferris wheel hype with proposal for a 175 meter tall structure, no name was given yet but it could probably be something to do with the word “eye”, probably Berlin Eye.

Dubai, Dubai, Dubai… why is it always Dubai? This is not any other typical ferris wheel, this is the mother of all ferris wheel, standing at 200 meter tall, the Dubai Eye wheel comes with condominium, hotels, retail center, entertainment and many more.

Every country is trying to out do each other by building the biggest… well, not quite true. Some country prefer it to be small, nice and cozy – the Pakistan Eye.

We have to admire these kids, in the midst of poverty they are still able to find ways to be happy, poverty sure is sad – Make Poverty History. So don’t go crying like a baby if your parents refuse to get you the latest iPhone or iPod when you already own a worn out first generation ipod and a stupid brick size Nokia phone.

These poor kids who don’t even get the chance to try out the big ferris wheel. This is usually stunning and surreal from Adif Hassan, a homemade ferris wheel in a trash heap in Pakistan. – The Washington Post
