Blueprint Paperweight and Contour Topoware

Chiasso has this unique paperweight specially made for architects – blueprint paperweight. It could be popular if it was sold before the computer revolution, but then again with so many senior draftsperson out there, this would be a ideal birthday or office gifts.

If you happen to be in the landscape architecture industry, then Topoware by Karola Torkos & Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino has something for you guys, it is a tableware collection that questions the landscape of dining and the catch line is “eating is a journey.” Found this image at Moon River.

Made up of cups, plates, bowls, placemats and a tablecloth, the collection explores the visual and social landscape of dining by using outlines and descriptions to describe, question and push our eating experience, making it really feel like a journey.

Well, this is my topic for Architecture Research and Methods, I am required to research on sociology in architecture, which is something I find interesting as I dig deeper into the methods used. Sociology is an obstructive method and is by far one of the best methods among all, the only limitation it has is the researcher’s imagination and inventiveness, for instant if a landscape architect is assign to design a walk path in a park, the best way would be to observe the physical traces of the surrounding such as worn pathways, this would give a slight idea on where the new walk path should be.

In short, architectural sociology is the study of how designed environment influences the inhabitant and in turn influence society and human behavior. Winston Churchill once said: “We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us.”
