Prepare to be Ang.ism by Mr.Ang Chee Cheong.

Who said time travel is impossible, all you have to do is to visit PAM’s website, the overall layout is horrible. From the humble beginning of June 2002 until today, there is no changes in the layout. We’re talking about art here mr.council members; the PAM official website is a very good example of bad web design. Use the Wayback Machine and search key in www.pam.org.my . Wayback Machine is a web archieve of all the webpages found online since the digital age.

Now take a good look at RAIA’s website and compare it with Malaysia’s PAM website. I’ve emailed the webmaster and this is the reply:

Firstly, let me thank you for your email dated 9 July 2006 and for taking time to view and comment on our PAM Website. Thanks as well for providing us the link to the RIBA website.

The PAM website is an on-going effort and is conceptualized to provide a balance of info on various topics of interest to our members. We’ve noted your comments and will take these into consideration appropriately.

One of Limkokwing’s former lecturers – Mr.Ang Chee Cheong is currenty going for the deputy president post. He reminds me of Disney’s cartoon character Stitch. Maybe it’s because he love to wear those Hawaiian Hu-Lala shirt. Visit his blog – Ang.ism, below is a short quote from his blog:

As a former a council member for 3 years, I have decided to contest this year’s election as I feel that I have yet ideas and initiatives to contribute. I am motivated also by the urge to see a PAM council that is not controlled by factions or interests. Claims of ‘continuity’ and ‘teamwork’ in reality only reinforces a culture of Entitlement, where serving council members feel they are ‘entitled’ to certain positions and promotions as reward.

Why Ang.ism? Well, according to Mr.Ang, he was speechless when one of his disciples a.k.a student asked him about the type of architecture he practices. After a few days, the finally found the answer – the type of architecture he is currently practicing… which is Ang.ism.

You have my vote Mr.Ang, but maybe not now because I’m not a PAM member, perhaps in another 10 years time. I think the organization need new blood, we’re the future and those old rugged council members are the past… not really the past, its just that the council has done almost nothing to promote architecture in Malaysia, for example the proposed demolition by our Malaysian government on the Coliseum Cinema – May I ask what has PAM done? The council is only motivated by money and not passion.

We need new blood.
