Urban Design Result
Apparently half of the class got a Q (Questionable as in F for Fail) and the other half just manage to squeeze through, and only a handful of lucky ones got above average for the Northbridge Link Urban Design.
I am not mad, why should I? Some of the student really deserve an F while others don’t but the question is, should any of them fail because what we are doing this semester is Urban Design. According to Wikipedia:
Urban design concerns the arrangement, appearance and functionality of towns and cities, and in particular the shaping and uses of urban public space.
In short, Urban Design is not architecture! It is like asking the interior designers to design a building. There is this whole debate doing on in the Curtin Architecurban design firmsture Forum, someone suggested throwing one of the lecturers out the level 7 window.
During the presentation, the professor mention that he wanted these types of cut section (image below), he simply love it but it is hard for me to accept the fact that these photoshoped sections are good, I prefer the simple line drawings. Not that those sectional photoshoped collage are bad but we’re now in 4th year.
Well, I am an Asian – just toe the line.

Northbridge Urban Design
I hate this stupid ‘Urban Design’ final semester project, it just doesn’t make any sense at all, and the best part is I have no idea what I am design, I kind of like the perspective – photoshop montage style but the master plan for the scheme is not even worth uploading, hence not even worth to be printed on a sheet of paper.
I’ve concluded that after 2 months of brain washing, architecture is all about talking cock, it is never about the design and the drawings and definitely not the perspective.
We’re taught to use bombastic words, learn how to bull shit and etc.
I guess they’re right about the difference between a local graduate and an overseas graduate in Malaysia, most local graduates are better at all those technical details but sucks at articulating their ideas, where else most overseas graduates sucks at drawings and detailing but posses this magical skills called talking cock.
Well, both have their ups and downs. Nothing is perfect.
