The idea was simple: Marissa wanted a job with flexible hours that would allow her to spend more time with her young family. She decided to become a painter and fine carpenter. She quit her IBM job, threw away her high heels and enrolled in the “Women in the Skilled Trades Program.” But when she went to buy her required safety gear for the program no one carried work boots made for women – and she wanted them in pink no less. It got her thinking….maybe she wasn’t the only woman who wanted a boot that fit.
