Skeuomorph design language is officially dead, started by Microsoft Metro design language, also known as Flat Design, the key design principle is better focus on the content of applications, relying more on typography and less on graphics. This new design language can be seen on Apple’s latest iOS7, surprise surprise. Better late than never.

renovatio

Renovatio is a Latin word, it means, literally, “a total rebirth” of something. If you stick an “n” on the end, you get the English word – renovation, which is like a total rebirth of your house. Having said that, this website is going through a “Renovatio” phase, the previous ‘Wood’ edition is out and in come the new ‘Concrete’ edition – Bigger, more photos and videos.

Greatly inspired by architects all over the world wearing nothing but black and white, everything is black and white except for photos and videos. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the following images best describe this new design approach. Clean, simple, minimalist and a little bit of Brutalism.

This reminds me of the beauty of simplicity, a beautiful Japanese story on craftsmanship known as the Mad Poet.

“From the age of six I had a mania for drawing the shapes of things. When I was fifty I had published a universe of designs. But all I have done before the the age of seventy is not worth bothering with. At seventy five I’ll have learned something of the pattern of nature, of animals, of plants, of trees, birds, fish and insects. When I am eighty you will see real progress. At ninety I shall have cut my way deeply into the mystery of life itself. At a hundred I shall be a marvelous artist. At a hundred and ten, everything I do – be it but a line or a dot – will be alive.” – Hokusai (1760-1849)
